His professional credentials include Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology, Chartered Biologist, and Chartered Science Teacher.
His research spans two major domains: molecular biosciences focusing on identifying novel diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets, and pedagogic research in higher education. In molecular biosciences, his notable discoveries include the identification of neurokinin B's association with pre-eclampsia, the endokinins (novel tachykinins), and the six members of the apolipoprotein L protein family. His pedagogic research focuses on student experience, progression metrics, awarding gaps, commuting students, inclusive curriculum development, and professional development.
