Dr. Nicolette Busuttil is a Post-Doctoral Researcher at Queen Mary University of London's School of Law, where she contributes to the MAPS Project and serves as Centre Coordinator for (B)OrderS: The Centre for the Legal Study of Borders and Migration. She holds concurrent roles as a Visiting Lecturer in Refugee Law at the University of Westminster and a Senior Teaching Fellow at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS). Her work focuses on the intersection of international and EU law regarding migrants and refugees, particularly those with mental healthcare needs classified as persons with disabilities. She examines how international human rights obligations apply to this population within the EU framework. Her research also addresses the implementation of UN Global Compacts for Refugees and Migration in Europe, as part of the Horizon 2020 PROTECT project.
Dr. Busuttil earned her PhD from Queen Mary with a thesis exploring disability-sensitive interpretations of EU non-refoulement obligations through the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. She is a Research Affiliate of the Refugee Law Initiative and actively engages in collaborative projects on migration and border law.
