Assistant Professor · Mass Spectrometry Imaging
Technical University of MunichAbout
Prof. Dr. Nicole Strittmatter leads the Assistant Professorship of Analytical Chemistry at the TUM School of Natural Sciences. Her research focuses on ambient mass spectrometry (MS), imaging MS (MSI), and spatial metabolomics to study biofilms and tissue metabolic heterogeneity.
- Education: PhD in Analytical Chemistry (2015) from Imperial College London; Chemistry degree from Justus Liebig University Giessen.
- Industry Experience: Senior/Associate Principal Scientist at AstraZeneca (2015-2021) in clinical pharmacology.
Her group develops methods to characterize spatially resolved metabolic changes in biofilms and tissues under stress, with applications in microbiology, pharmacology, and environmental science. Key techniques include REIMS, DESI-MSI, and multimodal imaging.
Recent work highlights CO2 activation, untargeted bacterial detection, and affordable laser-based ionization systems. She teaches courses in analytical chemistry and instrumental analysis at TUM.
