Nicole Coleman

Nicole Coleman is an Associate Professor of German at Wayne State University's Department of Classical and Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures, and Director of Global Studies. She holds a Ph.D. in German Studies from the University of Connecticut (2015) and M.A. in Political Science, Modern History, and Comparative Literature from the University of Bonn (2007). Her research focuses on contemporary German literature, human rights, intercultural theory, and innovative assessment practices in education.

Dr. Coleman's groundbreaking book *The Right to Difference* (2021) examines intercultural narratives in post-1990 German literature through a human rights lens. She co-authored the *Impuls Deutsch* textbook series (Klett), emphasizing intercultural and interdisciplinary approaches to language learning. Her pedagogical work includes pioneering #ungrading initiatives to enhance student motivation and engagement.

Awarded multiple teaching excellence recognitions including the President's Award (2020) and CLAS Award (2018), she has secured grants from the U.S. Department of Education and Wayne State's Humanities Center. Her work bridges literary analysis and practical educational innovation, addressing global challenges through intercultural competence development.
