Nicolas Vincent is a Full Professor in the Department of Applied Economics at HEC Montréal and currently serves as Non-executive Deputy Governor of the Bank of Canada. He holds a B.A.A. from HEC Montréal, an M.A. in Economics from Queen’s University, and a Ph.D. in Economics from Northwestern University. His research focuses on macroeconomics, monetary policy, and firm investment decisions, with notable contributions to understanding labor market dynamics, price dispersion, and the effects of geopolitical tensions on global operations.
Dr. Vincent has authored or co-authored influential publications in top journals such as the Quarterly Journal of Economics, Econometrica, and Review of Economic Studies. His recent work includes studies on the labor share decline, spatial economics, and pandemic-era debt-relief programs. He has supervised four Master’s theses in the past five years, addressing topics such as consumer spending during crises and trade exposure impacts.
In teaching, Vincent has won multiple awards and is known for his courses on the macroeconomic environment. He also co-authored the textbook Intermediate Macroeconomics (Pearson Education, 2022), blending theory with real-world data analysis. His current role at the Bank of Canada underscores his expertise in applying academic research to policy challenges.
