About
Nico Verdonschot is a Professor at Radboud University (Nijmegen, The Netherlands) and the University of Twente (Enschede, The Netherlands). He has been Head of the Orthopaedic Research Laboratory at Radboudumc since 2016 and a Visiting Professor at Politecnico di Milano since 2017. His research focuses on biomechanics, implant design, and musculoskeletal modeling, particularly in predicting treatment outcomes for orthopaedic patients through computational models.
Education: PhD from Radboud University (1990-1995), followed by post-doctoral research (1995-2000). Director of the Biomechanics section at Radboudumc (2000-2013).
Research interests include failure processes of orthopaedic implants, adaptive tissue responses, and combining musculoskeletal models with finite element analysis for patient-specific predictions. His work has led to breakthroughs in pre-surgical planning for tumor patients, as demonstrated in the TLEMsafe project (2014).
- Awards: Over 15 honors, including ERC Advanced Grant (2012), Erwin Morscher Lecture (2017), and SELVIK Award (2006).
- Grants/Projects: Coordinated the TLEMsafe EU project and leads the ERC-funded 'Biomechanical diagnostic tools' initiative.
Labs/Teams: Leads the Orthopaedic Research Laboratory, integrating computational models with clinical applications to improve surgical outcomes.
