Nico Baumgart

Nico Baumgart serves as a Scientific Associate at the Institute for Industrial Information Technology (inIT), an interdisciplinary research institute of Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences (TH OWL), located in Lemgo, Germany. Since joining inIT in April 2025, he has been an active member of the Mathematics and Data Sciences research group and contributes to the "KI Akademie OWL" project, which focuses on communicating AI opportunities and risks for industry and society.

His research centers on generative AI applications in engineering contexts, forming the foundation of his doctoral work. He specializes in translating complex AI concepts into practical industrial implementations while critically assessing societal implications, with emphasis on engineering disciplines and technology transfer to regional industries in Ostwestfalen-Lippe.

Within the Mathematics and Data Sciences research group, Baumgart advances data-driven methodologies for industrial automation through collaborations with regional manufacturing partners. His work bridges theoretical AI frameworks with real-world engineering challenges, particularly in demonstrating generative AI's potential for optimizing industrial processes while addressing ethical considerations.
