About
Dr Nicky Taylor is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Dementia Research within the School of Health at Leeds Beckett University. She also serves as Theatre and Dementia Research Associate at Leeds Playhouse and holds a Senior Atlantic Fellowship with the Global Brain Health Institute (Trinity College Dublin and University of California San Francisco).
Her research centers on co-production with people with dementia, challenging stigma through creative empowerment:
- Co-designing services and sharing life stories with dementia communities
- Integrating arts and science in global dementia approaches
- Leading the award-winning theatre and dementia programme at Leeds Playhouse
- Improving acute hospital care via the multi-site CONNECT study
Key recognitions include:
- Senior Atlantic Fellowship for advocacy in dementia research
- Pilot Award for Brain Health Leaders to establish a theatre-dementia co-production center
With 25+ years in care and community arts, she facilitates the Dementia Enquirers project placing people with dementia at the research forefront. Her doctoral work explored the 'Every Third Minute' festival where dementia communities acted as curators and playwrights.
