Nickole Brown is a Lecturer and award-winning poet who teaches periodically at institutions including the Sewanee School of Letters MFA Program and Great Smokies Writing Program. She holds an MFA from Vermont College and studied at Oxford University.
Brown's writing focuses on reimagining nature writing through working-class perspectives, animal sanctuary narratives, and Appalachian cultural heritage. She resists traditional pastorals to create inclusive ecological literature. Her current projects examine human-animal relationships through ethical frameworks.
Publications include the Weatherford Award-winning Fanny Says (2015), Rattle Prize-winning chapbook To Those Who Were Our First Gods (2018), and the collaborative Write It! 100 Poetry Prompts to Inspire (2021). Brown co-founded the SunJune Literary Collaborative to deliver generative writing workshops nationally.
