Nick Wood

Nick Wood is an Education and Development Lead at York St John University with a distinguished background in military service and criminal justice reform. After serving as an Aircraft Engineer in the Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm during the Falklands War and transitioning to civilian life in 1986, he joined HM Prison Service.

• Developed the Veterans In Custody Support (VICS) model adopted by MOD and MOJ
• Appointed National VICS Coordinator for 125 HM Prisons
• Currently delivers Veterans Awareness CPD to 550+ health/social care staff across Yorkshire and Humber

Research Focus: Examines how military culture impacts engagement with civilian support services. His work bridges Criminology, Veterans Affairs, and Social Justice, with notable publications on:

• Military-to-civilian transition challenges
• Substance misuse rehabilitation in correctional settings
• Offending behavior management systems

As a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and Honorary Fellow at Anglia Ruskin University's Veterans and Families Institute, he contributes to Occupational Therapy education and serves as a subject matter expert for government inquiries.
