Nick Wilson

Nick Wilson is an Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Department of Linguistics at Macquarie University. His research focuses on interactional sociolinguistics, particularly language variation and change, leadership discourse, and sociopragmatics in organizational and sports contexts.

• Education: PhD in Linguistics from Victoria University of Wellington (2012).
• External Positions: Research Associate, Language in the Workplace Project (2012–present); Fellow, Higher Education Academy (2014–present).

His work explores how language constructs team identity and facilitates leadership development in sports teams, alongside empirical studies of politeness norms and power negotiation in hierarchical settings. Recent projects include analyzing chronic injury narratives in contact sports and Australian English definite article variation. He has co-authored An Introduction to Sociolinguistics and supervises research on sports discourse, taboo language, and sociolinguistic change.
