Nick Sahinidis is a Professor and holder of the Gary C. Butler Family Chair at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He is affiliated with the School of Industrial and Systems Engineering and the Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering. His research focuses on mathematical optimization and machine learning, with significant contributions to algorithms and software development in these fields.
Dr. Sahinidis earned his Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University. He is a distinguished member of the National Academy of Engineering and holds fellowships from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AICHE), INFORMS, and the Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Association.
He has received prestigious awards such as the INFORMS Computing Society Prize, Beale-Orchard-Hays Prize, and the Constantin Carathéodory Prize. His editorial roles include serving on the boards of journals like Optimization and Engineering, the AIChE Journal, and Computational Optimization and Applications.
Sahinidis has authored 18 books or chapters and over 150 peer-reviewed articles, in addition to holding one patent. He collaborates actively with faculty and students in the Energy Institute at Georgia Tech.
