Nick Rousseau

Nick Rousseau serves as MECS International Liaison Manager at Loughborough University, affiliated with the Modern Energy Cooking Services research group. He holds a BA in Psychology from the University of Cambridge, MSc from Loughborough University, and PhD from the University of Sheffield, specializing in psychology and user-centred system design.

Rousseau's research integrates sustainable food systems and clean energy access, driven by his founding of the Woven Network for insect protein solutions and DfID-funded clean energy projects in Africa/Southeast Asia. His psychology expertise informs user-centred approaches to system design within global sustainability challenges, with innovation strategy forming a core methodology across his consultancy work.

Through Unconventional Connections consultancy, he secured DfID funding for clean energy technology deployment while previously directing international innovation strategy at the UK Department of Business, Innovation and Skills for over 20 years.

He leads the Modern Energy Cooking Services research initiative and founded the Woven Network, maintaining active engagement in both academic research groups and professional sustainability networks.
