Nick Rees is an Honorary Professorial Fellow and Visiting Lecturer at the University of Buckingham, where he also serves as Professor of International Relations and Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. He holds a BA from the University of Kent, an MA, and a PhD from the University of South Carolina, Columbia.
His research focuses on international relations, European Union dynamics, Irish foreign policy, and United Nations peacekeeping operations. Current projects include studying the financial crisis and Brexit's impact on Irish foreign policy and analyzing the role of the UN Secretary-General. He has authored numerous books, edited conference proceedings, and contributed to refereed journals.
Rees has led large-scale EU-funded research initiatives and served in leadership roles such as President of the Political Studies Association of Ireland and executive committee member of the National Committee for the Study of International Affairs (Royal Irish Academy). He continues to review for leading academic journals and publishers, including editing the Irish Political Studies journal.
His professional contributions extend to advisory roles in international affairs and institutional governance, reflecting his expertise in global policy frameworks and academic leadership.
