About
Nick Fey is an Associate Professor in the Walker Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin and a core faculty member of Texas Robotics. He holds a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. from UT Austin, with postdoctoral research at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab and Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine. As Director of the Systems for Augmenting Human Mechanics Laboratory, his work focuses on rehabilitation robotics, neuromuscular biomechanics, and assistive technologies for individuals with limb loss or neurological disorders. Key research areas include prosthetic/orthotic design, myoelectric control systems, and additive manufacturing of medical devices.
His research is supported by the U.S. Department of Defense, NIH, and NSF National Robotics Initiative. Fey teaches in the Dynamic Systems and Control area and advises students who have received awards from the American Society of Biomechanics and International Consortium for Rehabilitation Robotics. He serves as Graduate Student Recruiting Coordinator for Biomechanical Engineering, Co-Faculty Mentor for the Biomedical CGE track, and Co-Advisor for Texas Robotics Graduate Students. He is an Associate Editor for IEEE robotics and biomedical conferences and co-founded the UT Southwestern Adaptive Sports Coalition.
