Nick Cave is a Professor and Chair of the Fashion Design department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). He holds a BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute (1981) and an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art (1988). As an artist and educator, his work explores intersections between fashion, sculpture, and performance, with a focus on textile art and body-centric garment design. He has exhibited widely in prestigious institutions such as the Jack Shainman Gallery, Seattle Art Museum, and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.
His research interests include contemporary art practices, material experimentation, and the sociocultural dimensions of fashion. Cave has received notable awards, including grants from the Andy Warhol Foundation and the United States Artist Award. He currently teaches courses like Fashion Design Studio I and Graduate Fashion Design Studio III: Contextualizing Fashion at SAIC.
