Nick Anstead

Dr Nick Anstead is an Associate Professor in the Department of Media and Communications at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). His research focuses on political communication practices, political institutions, and the circulation of political ideas in public debate. He has contributed to public discourse through media appearances on BBC Newsnight, BBC Radio 4, CNN, and Reuters, among others.

His work includes co-editing the Fabian Society pamphlet The Change We Need (2009) and authoring What Do We Know and What Should We Do About Fake News? (2021). A 2015 Media Policy Project paper on televised debates influenced UK election debate formats. Anstead is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, sits on the board of 38 Degrees, and consults for Unions21 on digital campaigning strategies for trade unions.

He has spoken at institutions like the Fabian Society, Institute for Government, and Rand Corporation. His research bridges academia and policy, emphasizing media’s role in democracy and contemporary political communication challenges.
