Nicholas Weise is a Senior Lecturer at The University of Manchester, holding joint appointments in the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology and Manchester Medical School. He serves as Teaching Faculty Lead for Student Experience & Inclusion in the Faculty of Biology Medicine & Health, and as Teaching & Learning Enhancement Lead for Chemistry within the School of Natural Sciences. His roles include Departmental Head of Employability and membership on the Faculty of Science & Engineering’s Teaching Academy Committee. He coordinates three Peer Support schemes: University-wide Commuter Peer Mentoring, Chemistry Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS), and Faculty-level Industrial Placement Mentoring.
With a PhD in Biological Chemistry (2015) and BSc in Molecular Biology (2012), both from The University of Manchester, Nick’s expertise spans biomolecular science, education innovation, and public engagement. He founded the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology’s Programme of Public Engagement with Research & Researchers, focusing on multilingual outreach and art-science collaborations. His research interests include climate change communication, sonic representation of DNA sequences, and community engagement with non-English speaking groups.
Recipient of over 25 awards including the Biochemical Society Teaching Excellence Award (2025) and Making A Difference Award for Public Engagement, Nick’s work emphasizes inclusive learning environments, flexible instructional systems, and fostering student belonging. He has pioneered transnational educational initiatives reaching 100,000+ learners through open online courses and developed training programs for NHS clinical educators, university staff, and international researchers.
