About
Dr Nicholas Rattray serves as a Senior Lecturer at the Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy and Biomedical Science, University of Strathclyde, where his research centers on metabolic dynamics across the human life course with emphasis on energy metabolism and biomarker detection in clinical contexts spanning pregnancy, frailty, and ageing.
His research program investigates metabolic changes through critical life stages including placental energy transfer, ageing-related cancer metabolism, and population-level frailty analysis. He develops novel analytical approaches for quantifying biochemical energy pathways and creates statistical tools linking metabolite data to genomic studies, enabling epidemiological modeling of metabolic exposures. Current projects integrate clinical studies on pregnancy, frailty diagnostics, and ageing with high-throughput metabolomics pipelines.
Dr Rattray's laboratory maintains comprehensive capabilities in cellular disease modeling, untargeted/targeted mass spectrometry metabolomics, imaging mass spectrometry development, automated data processing pipelines, and specialized workflows for energy metabolite quantification at high-throughput levels.
