Nicholas Nelson

Nicholas Nelson serves as the Northeast Regional Director for Inter-Fluve, a river and wetland restoration firm, while maintaining an academic role at Harvard University's Graduate School of Design (GSD) since 2016. He specializes in integrating hydrologic and ecologic principles into landscape architecture education through practical case studies and fieldwork.

His professional expertise spans fluvial geomorphology, river restoration design, dam removal planning, and GIS analyses. Teaching roles include instructing at Tongji University (2017), the University of Minnesota (2007–2014), and Northeastern University (2014–present). He also trains MA conservation commissioners annually and contributes to geomorphic assessment protocol development for Massachusetts rivers.

Research focuses on water-land linkages, aquatic ecology, and sustainable restoration practices, emphasizing real-world applications in urban river renewal and cranberry bog ecosystem restoration.
