Nicholas Lintzeris

Nicholas (Nick) Lintzeris is a Conjoint Professor in the Discipline of Addiction Medicine at the Central Clinical School, University of Sydney. He serves as Director and Senior Staff Specialist for Drug and Alcohol Services in the South East Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD), NSW Health. With over three decades of experience in clinical service delivery, research, and policy development, he is internationally recognized for his work on opioid dependence treatment, medicinal cannabis, and value-based healthcare systems for substance use disorders.

His research bridges clinical and academic communities, focusing on pharmacotherapies for substance use disorders, randomized controlled trials, systematic reviews, and health systems innovation. He has led major projects such as the Australian Guidelines for Medication-Assisted Treatment of Opioid Dependence and the NSW Long-Acting Injectable Buprenorphine Guidelines (2019, 2024). With over $40 million in research funding (including 15 NHMRC grants) and 250+ peer-reviewed publications in top journals like Lancet, JAMA, and BMJ, his work has significantly influenced national and international addiction medicine practices.

Scientific awards include the NHMRC Clinical Research Postdoctoral Fellowship. He has held leadership roles such as Chief Addiction Medicine Specialist for NSW Health (2012-14), President of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians' Addiction Medicine Chapter (2020-22), and Clinical Director of the Lambert Initiative for Cannabinoid Therapeutics (2014-16). His collaborations span institutions in Australia and the UK, including Kings College London and the National Addiction Centre.
