About
Nicholas (Nick) Hunt is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Medical Sciences at the University of Sydney, affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health. He leads the Biogerontology Group at the ANZAC Research Institute and is part of the MRFF Targeted Translation Research Accelerator (TTRA) and Sydney Research Accelerator (SOAR). He holds an NHMRC Emerging Leadership Fellowship.
Education: BSc (Hons), PhD. His research focuses on nanomaterials for clinical medicine, particularly quantum dots and organic nanoparticles for imaging and drug delivery, with applications in diabetes, aging, and hepatic disorders. He also advocates for early-career researcher (ECR) development, serving as an ECR Ambassador for Sydney Nano and former secretary of the FMH EMCR subcommittee.
Research interests include nanotherapeutics for age-related diseases, liver biology, and translational medicine. Key publications highlight breakthroughs in insulin delivery systems, liver sinusoidal endothelium targeting, and miRNA modulation in chronic liver disease.
Awards: Multiple recognitions for innovation in pharmacology and nanomedicine, including the BPS-ASCEPT Outstanding Young Investigator (2021) and Sydney Nano Awards (2021, 2020). He is an active member of the Australasian Society of Clinical and Experimental Pharmacologists and Toxicologists (ASCEPT) and the Australasian Diabetes Society (ADS).
Lab affiliations: Centre for Drug Discovery Innovation, University of Sydney Nano Institute, and Charles Perkins Centre. Current grants include projects on oral insulin formulations (TTRA) and inverse nano-vaccination for Type 1 diabetes (2024).
