Nicholas Hool is a Senior Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Chester, within the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Society. With over 20 years of experience in adult mental health, he specializes in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and clinical supervision. He leads the PGDip/M.Sc. in CBT High Intensity Training Programme and the PG Cert in Clinical Supervision, focusing on both high and low intensity interventions.
Trained in CBT at the University of Birmingham, Hool has been delivering postgraduate CBT training at the University of Chester since 2006. He is a BABCP-accredited practitioner and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. His clinical work includes supervising IAPT services and developing treatment manuals for depression and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD).
Research interests center on talking therapies for depression and anxiety disorders. He authored the first edition of BABCP’s core curriculum reference document (2010) and has contributed to low-intensity treatment protocols. Teaching responsibilities include direct instruction, clinical supervision, and stakeholder collaboration.
