Nicholas Brown

Nicholas Brown is Professor in the Departments of English and African American Studies at the University of Illinois Chicago. His research examines modernism, African literature, critical theory, Marxism, and the history of aesthetics.

Work explores intersections of postcolonial literature, European modernism, and global economic systems. Recent scholarship investigates the social ontology of art under capitalism and musical aesthetics.

Publications demonstrate interdisciplinary approaches combining literary theory, political philosophy, and musicology. Research consistently examines artistic production within socioeconomic contexts.

Chairs editorial board of the journal Mediations and co-edits the MCM′ electronic/print press. Leads graduate studies in critical theory and global literature.
