Nicholas Balla

Dr. Nicholas Balla serves as Director of Bands and Coordinator of Music Education at Arkansas State University's College of Liberal Arts and Communication, Department of Music. He conducts the A-State Wind Ensemble, instructs undergraduate conducting courses, and coordinates the Wind Band graduate conducting program while directing the Diamond Brass Band and Jonesboro Community Wind Ensemble.

His research centers on Vincent Persichetti's compositions and innovative applications of atmospheric studies in instrumental music education. Balla explores how environmental phenomena influence classroom dynamics and musical interpretation, presenting at national conferences including the College Band Directors National Association and Symposium for Music Teacher Education.

Notable creative output includes conducting the 2023 world premiere of Alberto Rojo's interdisciplinary concerto Into the Labyrinth, featuring narrator, guitarist, tenor, and jazz drummer. His professional affiliations include College Band Directors National Association, Kappa Kappa Psi, National Band Association, and Pi Kappa Lambda.
