Dr. Nicholas Andronicos is an Associate Professor in Biochemistry and Immunology at UNE's School of Science and Technology. His research program focuses on veterinary vaccine development against gastrointestinal parasites, mammalian cell engineering, and molecular mechanisms of host-parasite interactions. Andronicos earned his PhD from University of Wollongong and conducted postdoctoral research at Scripps Research Institute before joining CSIRO and subsequently UNE.
Research interests span mucosal immunology, recombinant protein expression, synthetic biology, and autoimmunity. Current PhD projects investigate vaccine design, parasite culture systems, and antiviral responses. Received the Australian Award for University Teaching (2021) for innovative gamified biochemistry lessons.
Publishes extensively on parasite immunology, molecular biology, and science education. Major contributions include developing novel models for autoimmune disorders and characterizing plasminogen receptor systems.
