Nichola Cadet

Nichola Cadet is a Senior Lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University's Sheffield Institute of Law and Justice, part of the College of Social Sciences and Arts. She holds a MSc and BA (Hons) with Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA). With over two decades of experience, she transitioned from Criminal Justice System practitioner roles in prisons and probation into academia in 2003. Her teaching spans undergraduate and postgraduate criminology programs including Punishment and Practice in Context, Contemporary International Issues in Criminal Justice, and employability-focused modules. She advises students across all program levels and oversees criminology outreach/recruitment efforts.

Her research focuses on offender health systems and ageing within the criminal justice system, including first-time older prisoners' experiences, probation services for elderly clients, and custodial staff wellbeing. She has conducted NHS England-commissioned health needs assessments for prisons and sexual assault referral centers. Professional development includes curriculum design emphasizing employability through simulations/placements, and pedagogical innovation in social sciences education.

Current research projects examine staff wellbeing in custodial environments while prior work addressed probation challenges with ageing clients. She serves as an external examiner for Sunderland University's criminology programs. Key interests include CJS organizational structures, partnerships between statutory/voluntary sectors, and policy implications of demographic shifts in offender populations.
