About
Nesrin Erkol is a Professor and Department Head at Boğaziçi University. She completed her undergraduate education at Boğaziçi University, earned a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania, and conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Michigan. Her office is located in Kuzey Park (KP 306), and she can be contacted via email or phone.
Her research focuses on immunology and apoptosis, with specialized investigations into NLR proteins (NLRP7, NLRP13, NLRC3) and their roles in immune privilege and tolerance. Key areas include inflammasome regulation, anti-inflammatory mechanisms of NLR proteins, placental immune tolerance, and connections to tumor immunology. Methodologies span bioinformatics, antibody development, immunoprecipitation, mass spectrometry, and cellular assays.
Her recent publications (2014-2017) demonstrate a strong emphasis on molecular immunology, covering inflammasome dynamics, anti-inflammatory cytosolic proteins, structural biology of immune complexes, and population genomics. Computational analyses frequently complement experimental work in these studies.
