Nelson R. Gomez-Torres

Dr. Nelson R. Gomez-Torres is an Associate Professor of Instruction in the Department of Civil Engineering at The University of Texas at Arlington. He holds a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez (2012) and has over 20 years of professional experience in engineering design, construction management, and transportation studies. His research focuses on transportation engineering, stakeholder management, and engineering education, with a strong emphasis on applying data-driven approaches to solve practical problems.

Dr. Gomez-Torres has been recognized with the Distinguished Professor Award from the IEOM Society in 2021. He actively contributes to academic governance through roles such as Faculty Advisor for the ASCE Student Chapter and membership in committees like the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee. His teaching philosophy prioritizes real-world application, active learning, and societal responsibility, reflected in courses like Professional Practice, Transportation Engineering, and Stochastic Models for Civil Engineering.
