Dr. Neil Walkinshaw is a Senior Lecturer in Testing at the School of Computer Science, University of Sheffield, where he also serves as Inclusive Computing Lead and member of the Testing research group. He holds a PhD from the University of Strathclyde and has held academic positions at the University of Leicester before returning to Sheffield in 2018.
His research focuses on software testing and analysis, particularly in complex domains involving causal inference, state machine inference, and second-order uncertainty. Key areas include testing of systems with large input spaces, cyber-physical systems, and scientific software models. He leads the EPSRC-funded CITCOM project developing causal testing frameworks.
Dr. Walkinshaw has supervised PhD students including Richard Somers and contributes to academic publishing innovation through platforms like JOSS. His recent work explores applications of causal testing in healthcare systems and autonomous driving validation.
