Neil W. Hamilton is the Holloran Professor of Law and Co-director of the Holloran Center for Ethical Leadership in the Professions at the University of St. Thomas School of Law. He served as Interim Dean (2012) and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and previously held roles at William Mitchell College of Law. His expertise spans legal education, ethics, and professional responsibility.
Education: JD from University of Minnesota Law School; MA in Economics (Industrial Organizations) from University of Michigan; BA from Colorado College.
Research focuses on professional identity formation, legal ethics, and fostering ethical leadership. He authored over 70 law journal articles, four books, and a bi-monthly column in Minnesota Lawyer (1999–2012). Recent works include Roadmap: The Law Student's Guide to Preparing for Meaningful Employment (ABA 2015), which won the ABA Gambrell Award.
Awards: Minnesota State Bar Association’s Professional Excellence Award (2004), University of St. Thomas Presidential Award (2009), and Minnesota Lawyer Circle of Merit (2012).
His courses include Professional Responsibility, Ethical Leadership in Organizations, and Mentor Externship programs. The Holloran Center, under his direction, emphasizes ethical leadership development for legal professionals.
