Neil Rumming

Neil Rumming is a Lecturer in Fine Art Painting at Camberwell College of Arts, University of the Arts London. His practice reconfigures painting’s elemental values through physically intensive processes like stomping and jumping on printing plates, challenging established artistic conventions. His work merges modernist abstraction, Warholian pop aesthetics, and Arte Povera principles to explore painterly traditions within contemporary contexts.

Exhibitions: Rumming’s work has been featured globally, including at HD Projects (New York), ICA London, Oktober (Düsseldorf), and Mizuma Gallery (Tokyo). Research Interests: Rumming’s work interrogates the intersection of systematic art history and personal expression, using performative techniques to dissect painting’s formal components. His practice addresses themes like cultural exhaustion, materiality, and existential crises in contemporary society, as seen in his 2020 exhibition Happy Valley, which reflected on pandemic-era anxieties and societal fragmentation.
