Neil Leslie is a Lecturer in Criminology and Policing at the Department of Sociological and Psychological Sciences, Abertay University. He holds an honorary membership in the university's alumni network and is currently pursuing a PhD examining policing’s commitment to local neighbourhood engagement. Prior to academia, he served as a retired Detective Chief Superintendent with extensive experience in UK and Europol operations, specializing in serious crime investigation, organized crime, and covert policing techniques. He was previously Head of the East Midlands Regional Organised Crime Unit.
His research focuses on policing practices during crises, including pandemic responses and organizational justice. He collaborates on studies like police talent development and has authored/co-authored peer-reviewed articles. He serves on the Board of Trustees for the Dundee Citizens Advice Bureau and actively engages with industry partners through Abertay’s academic programs.
Professional affiliations include memberships in the university’s academic team alongside Senior Lecturer Corinne Jola and Professor Alexander Law.
