Professor Neil Bourne holds the Chair of Matter in Extreme Environments at University of Manchester. Educated at University of Cambridge (Natural Sciences), he directs University of Manchester at Harwell and the Thomas Ashton Institute for occupational safety research.
Research: Studies material responses under extreme mechanical/thermal stresses using national facilities (Diamond Light Source, STFC). Work spans shock physics, detonation thresholds, and safety in hazardous environments.
