Neeraj Mittal

Neeraj Mittal is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science at The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), part of the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science. His academic career spans over two decades, progressing from Assistant Professor (2002-2009) to Associate Professor (2009-2020) before achieving his current rank. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from The University of Texas at Austin (2002), and has extensive postdoctoral and industry collaboration experience.

Education: PhD (2002), M.S. (1997), and B.Tech. (1995) in Computer Science from The University of Texas at Austin and IIT Delhi respectively. His research focuses on multi-core computing, distributed systems, fault tolerance, and cognitive radio networks. He has advised numerous PhD and Master’s students, many of whom now hold prominent roles in tech industries like Intel, Google, and Cisco.

Research Contributions: Over 80 refereed publications, including work on concurrent data structures (e.g., lock-free trees), distributed algorithms, and system reliability. Notable grants include NSF-funded projects on scalable concurrent data structures and distributed computing. His work has been recognized with awards like the Student Best Paper Award (PODC 2020) and multiple Outstanding Service Awards from UTD.

Professional Service: Served on over 50 conference program committees, editorial boards, and university committees. Active in curriculum development, teaching innovation, and student mentoring. His leadership roles include Assessment Coordinator for the Computer Science department and membership in the Faculty Senate.
