Necla Kochan

Necla Kochan is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Izmir University of Economics since 2024. She previously served as a Research Assistant at the same department from 2010 to 2017.

Her research focuses on interdisciplinary applications of statistics and machine learning in biological domains. Key areas include computational biology, biostatistics, fuzzy logic, and advanced classification techniques like Bayesian classifiers and support vector machines. Her work addresses challenges in high-dimensional RNA-Seq data analysis and medical diagnostics.

Recent publications demonstrate expertise in RNA-Seq classification, colon cancer subtyping, and LDL cholesterol estimation. She employs methods such as quantile transformation and covariance matrix estimation while applying machine learning to healthcare problems.

She has collaborated with researchers at Smyth Lab and contributed to bibliometric analyses of medical research literature. Her work bridges statistical theory with practical bioinformatics applications.
