Navneet Kapur is a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Population Health at the University of Manchester and an Honorary Consultant Psychiatrist at Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust. He serves as Director of the National Confidential Inquiry into Suicide and Safety in Mental Health and Head of Research at the Centre for Mental Health and Safety. His work focuses on suicide prevention, mental health service improvement, and clinical guideline development.
Education: MBChB (University of Leeds, 1992), MMedSc (University of Leeds, 1997), MD (University of Manchester, 2002), FRCPsych (2008).
Research Interests: Suicidology, epidemiology of self-harm, military suicide, healthcare safety, and policy impact. Key projects include the National Confidential Inquiry, MaSH Project, and NIHR-funded initiatives.
Awards: 2021 Stengel Award (IASP), 2021 Dublin Award (AAS), 2019 University of Manchester Making a Difference Award.
Roles: Member of UK National Suicide Prevention Advisory Group, NICE guideline chair, and academic lead for the Walport Scheme in Psychiatry.
