About
Navid Saleh is a Professor at The University of Texas at Austin's Department of Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering (CAEE), holding the Chevron Centennial Fellowship in Engineering No. 1. He specializes in environmental and water resources engineering with a focus on nanotechnology applications. Saleh earned his B.S. from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (2001), followed by M.S. (2004), Ph.D. (2007), and a postdoc at Yale University (2008), all in Environmental Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.
His research spans three core areas: evaluating nanomaterials' environmental impact, engaging communities for socially embedded solutions, and engineering advanced water treatment technologies. Key interests include nano-enabled water purification, safer nanomaterial design, and nanomaterial-reinforced infrastructure. He collaborates internationally, addressing challenges in both developing and technologically advanced regions.
Recent work includes structural equation modeling of water-sanitation-health linkages in underserved communities, microwave-enhanced nanohybrid disinfection, and cannabinoid fate in water systems. His group has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles in journals like Environmental Science & Technology and NanoImpact, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches.
Awards highlight his contributions to nanohybrid environmental risk assessment and nanomaterial aggregation studies. He leads grants from NSF, Qatar National Research Fund, and others, totaling over $3 million. His lab facilities include advanced equipment for nanomaterial characterization, such as DLS systems and QCM.
As an educator, Saleh designs courses integrating nanotechnology ethics and global applications. He advises a dynamic team of graduate and undergraduate students, fostering outreach programs in Texas colonias and Oaxaca, Mexico. Current projects address Alaskan native water quality, microplastic transformation, and culturally responsive filtration systems inspired by Navajo pottery techniques.
