Nathaniel Lawson

Nathaniel Lawson, DMD, PhD, is an Associate Professor and Division Director at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Dentistry's Division of Biomaterials. With a PhD in Biomedical Engineering and a DMD, he combines clinical practice with materials research and education.

Research Interests: Focuses on dental biomaterials with expertise in mechanical properties, esthetic evaluation, and bioactive material testing. His work includes 100+ publications on topics like 3D-printed dental materials, luting cement solubility, and crown fracture resistance.

• Conducted in vitro and clinical studies on dental composites, ceramics, and occlusal devices
• Developed testing protocols for bond strength, wear resistance, and radiopacity

Teaching & Mentoring: Teaches courses like Intro to Dental Materials Research and Journal Club for Biomaterials, while serving as chairperson for graduate theses. Collaborates with institutions on clinical trials for novel dental products.
