Nathaniel Bogie is an Assistant Professor in the Geology Department at San José State University. His research focuses on water movement through soil zones and plant-water interactions.

His work explores two main areas: 1) Traditional intercropping practices in the West African Sahel using deep-rooted shrubs to transfer water to crops during droughts, and 2) Impact of deficit/drip irrigation and cover crop management on crop growth and carbon cycling in California’s Central Valley. He has conducted fieldwork in Senegal, France, and Western US. Prior to academia, he worked in renewable energy, environmental consulting, and water resources sectors.
