Nathan West

Nathan West serves as a Research Assistant Professor of Behavioral Sciences at the University of Alaska, affiliated with the Center for Behavioral Health Research and Services (CBHRS) within the Institute of Social and Economic Research (ISER). He joined ISER/CBHRS in 2022 as a postdoctoral fellow before his 2024 appointment to his current position.

His research focuses on community-engaged health promotion and chronic disease prevention, with specialized expertise in faith-based health initiatives. He partners extensively with religious communities to assess health needs of churches and faith leaders, developing culturally responsive interventions that bridge spiritual and public health frameworks. His work emphasizes practical community applications and reducing health disparities through participatory approaches.

Dr. West maintains active collaboration with faith communities across Alaska, conducting needs assessments and co-designing health promotion programs that respect religious contexts while addressing critical public health challenges in chronic disease management.
