Nathan Salowitz is Associate Professor and Richard and Joanne Grigg Fellow in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He directs the Advanced Structures Laboratory and specializes in intelligent material systems and structural health monitoring.
His research develops sensing/actuation technologies using piezoelectric materials and shape memory alloys for failure detection in aerospace composites and hybrid structures. Recent advances include embedded transducer networks and graphene-based sensors.
Honored with NSF CAREER and Fulbright awards, Dr. Salowitz collaborates with industry on applications for aircraft, energy systems, and infrastructure. His educational initiatives focus on accessible microelectronics laboratory experiences.
