Nathan Orlando

Nathan Orlando serves as Assistant Professor and Chair of the Political Science Department at Benedictine College, a position he assumed in 2022 after joining the faculty in 2020. His teaching responsibilities span foundational courses in American government, comparative politics, and international relations, alongside specialized seminars on nuclear deterrence, grand strategy, and political theory.

Dr. Orlando's academic background includes:

• Bachelor of Arts in Political Economy and Philosophy & Religion from Hillsdale College
• Master of Arts in Political Science from Baylor University
• Doctor of Philosophy in Political Science from Baylor University

Prior to Benedictine College, he held a post-doctoral fellowship in international politics at Saint Vincent College (2018-2020) and served as a visiting fellow at their Center for Political and Economic Thought.

His research centers on 20th-century European political philosophy with particular focus on Jean-Paul Sartre and Raymond Aron. He investigates the intersections of Marxism and existentialism, ideological evolution in Cold War contexts, and the application of classical political theory to contemporary statecraft. His work consistently examines moral dimensions of power, diplomatic theory, and the philosophical foundations of international relations.
