- PhD from Indiana University
- MSA from University of Illinois at Chicago

Dr. Marshall's research focuses on the intersection of financial accounting and capital markets, with particular emphasis on corporate information communication, dissemination, and processing. His work examines how information intermediaries process corporate information and make discretionary decisions. His research spans three main areas: (i) corporate communication of performance information; (ii) information intermediaries and the processing of information; and (iii) the discretionary decisions of information intermediaries.
Analysis of his recent publications shows a consistent focus on how corporate information flows through various channels to investors and markets. His work explores traditional disclosure mechanisms like SEC filings alongside newer channels such as social media and podcasts. A recurring theme is how different information channels affect market efficiency and investor decision-making. His research also examines regulatory aspects of financial reporting, including SEC investigations and exchange trading halts.
Dr. Marshall is a certified public accountant in the State of Illinois. Prior to his academic career, he worked for six years as a manager at The Kenrich Group, a litigation consulting firm in Chicago, where he specialized in calculating and quantifying corporate damages from contractual disputes. He also previously worked as a credit analyst for Standard Federal Bank.
At the Leeds School of Business, Dr. Marshall teaches Principles of Accounting I (BCOR 2203).
