Nathan Long

Nathan Long serves as Interim President of University of Western States (UWS) since June 24, 2024, and President of Saybrook University (currently on sabbatical). Previously, he held decade-long roles as associate professor, dean, chief academic officer, and president at The Christ College of Nursing and Health Sciences, with additional experience at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College, University of Cincinnati, and Arizona State University.

His educational background includes:

• Bachelor of Music in Music Performance
• Master of Education in Educational Studies (cognates: educational psychology, sociology)
• Doctor of Education in Educational Studies (concentrations: history, sociology, peace and urban education)

Dr. Long's research centers on Educational Studies, Peace Education, and Urban Education, examining intersections of social justice, history, and community health. His work emphasizes decolonized educational frameworks and systemic equity in urban settings, particularly through the lens of African American contributions to peace movements. As host of the podcast 'Saybrook Insights,' he amplifies faculty and student research on advancing community well-being.

His sole documented publication, 'African American Peace Leaders of the 20th Century' (2003), establishes foundational work in peace studies, analyzing civil rights activism through biographical narratives of overlooked leaders. This reflects his consistent focus on marginalized voices in historical and educational contexts.

Dr. Long maintains active leadership in strategic institutional growth, currently guiding UWS initiatives for long-term sustainability while residing in Portland, Oregon, and Southern California with his partner Kim.
