Nathan Lane

Dr. Nathan Lane is Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Oxford and Fellow at Merton College. His empirical research examines economic development at the intersection of political economy, trade, and industrial economics, with influential work appearing in The New York Times, The Economist, and U.S. Council of Economic Advisers reports.

His current research investigates industrial policy effectiveness, particularly in the global semiconductor sector, where he analyzes subsidy impacts, cross-border externalities, and learning-by-doing dynamics. Recent projects employ historical analysis, natural language processing, and economic modeling to understand policy rationales and impacts.

Publications consistently demonstrate innovative approaches to measuring industrial policies and evaluating their economic effects.
