Nate Gabriel

Nate Gabriel is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography at the School of Arts and Sciences, Rutgers University, where he serves as an Undergraduate Advisor and Core Faculty for the Graduate Program. He is currently on leave for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Professor Gabriel's research critically examines intersections of political ecology, urban space, and sustainability, with emphasis on public sphere dynamics, automation impacts, and green infrastructure in socio-ecological systems. His work explores how diverse economies shape urban environments and community resilience through frameworks of political ecology and spatial justice.

He teaches undergraduate courses including Cultural and Political Ecology, Introduction to Environmental Studies, and Maps, Power, and the Digital World, integrating critical perspectives on technology and environmental governance. As an academic advisor, he guides undergraduate students in geography and environmental studies curricula while contributing to graduate program development.
