Taras Shevchenko National University of KyivAbout
Nataliia Gerasymenko is a Professor in the Department of Earth Sciences and Geomorphology at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Ukraine, where she has worked since 2005. She leads the international project Environments of the Prehistorical and Historical Man in different areas of Ukraine (№ 19БФ050-01) and has held previous roles at the Institute of Geography of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
- MSc in Earth Sciences (1975, Taras Shevchenko National University)
- PhD in Geomorphology (1985, Institute of Geography, NAS Ukraine)
- Doctor of Sciences in Geomorphology and Palaeogeography (2004, Institute of Geography, NAS Ukraine)
Her research focuses on Quaternary palaeogeography, including palaeoenvironmental reconstruction through loess-paleosol sequences, pollen analysis, and geoarchaeological studies. She integrates stratigraphic, lithological, and archaeological data to model Quaternary terrestrial dynamics.
Recent publications analyze Pleistocene-Holocene transitions in cave sediments, Holocene vegetation changes in Ukraine, and climatic signals in loess deposits. Her work includes chronostratigraphic modeling, luminescence dating, and biome mapping for Eastern Europe.
Current projects aim to:
- Correlate Ukrainian Quaternary stratigraphy with European/global frameworks
- Develop a geoarchaeological site database
- Investigate Upper Pleistocene millennial-scale climate fluctuations
