His research focuses on systems optimization and control theory applied to industrial systems, including robust adaptive servo systems, energy-efficient industrial machinery, outdoor mobile robot design and control, and novel inspection strategies for industrial systems. He teaches courses such as Robot Kinematics (M41630400) and Robotics (M41630380).
Uchiyama earned a Doctor of Engineering degree from Tokyo Metropolitan University and is affiliated with major academic societies including the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers and Robotics Society of Japan. He leads research at the Integrative Computational Design and Construction for Architecture (T3.0) team at the Institute for System Dynamics (ISYS).
