Nagoya Institute of Technology (NIT)About
Naoki Kishi is an Associate Professor at Nagoya Institute of Technology, Faculty of Engineering, Department of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (Electrical and Electronic field). He leads the Kishi Laboratory, which focuses on energy harvesting technologies using semiconductor materials.
Educational Background:
- March 2000: Graduated from Department of Electrical and Information Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Nagoya Institute of Technology
- March 2002: Completed Master's Program in Urban Circulation Systems Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering, Nagoya Institute of Technology
- March 2007: Completed Doctoral Program in Materials Science, Graduate School of Science, Nagoya University
- March 2007: Ph.D. (Science), Nagoya University
Kishi's research focuses on developing sustainable energy solutions through semiconductor technology. His work spans three main areas: synthesis of nanocarbons (carbon nanotubes, graphene) for transparent conductive films and flexible devices; development of flexible organic solar cells; and creation of flexible thermoelectric conversion devices using organic semiconductors and nanomaterials. His laboratory operates under the guiding principles of "environment," "energy," and "electronics" to address future energy challenges.
His recent publications (2023-2025) demonstrate a strong focus on PEDOT:PSS-based flexible materials for thermoelectric applications, bismuth-based perovskite solar cells, and carbon nanotube composites for electromagnetic shielding. These works reflect his commitment to developing lightweight, flexible energy harvesting technologies that can utilize otherwise wasted thermal energy and solar power.
Scientific Awards:
- 2024.06: 2023 Nagoya Institute of Technology Faculty Evaluation Excellence Award
- 2024.03: 41st Nagai Technology Award (Nagai Science and Technology Foundation)
- 2016.11: 2016 Nagoya Institute of Technology Faculty Evaluation Excellence Award
- 2014.11: 2014 Nagoya Institute of Technology Faculty Evaluation Special Excellence Award
Kishi has successfully advised numerous graduate students across multiple cohorts, including doctoral and master's students working on various aspects of nanocarbon materials and energy harvesting devices. His research has been supported by multiple competitive grants including JSPS KAKENHI grants (2012-2014, 2016-2019, 2019-2022) and a recent JST startup ecosystem co-creation program grant (2025-2026).
The Kishi Laboratory maintains active collaborations with industry partners and participates in numerous social activities including technical seminars for companies on carbon nanotube films, transparent conductive films, and thermoelectric conversion materials. The lab has also been featured in media coverage including the Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun for developing new thermoelectric conversion materials.
